Letter from your Area Referee Administrator
Just a quick letter to all parents, spectators and
players participating in Area B AYSO.
The most difficult position in AYSO, for most regions
to fill is that of a qualified referee. The reason it
is so hard to fill, is the amount of complaints
directed at the ref. Lets face it, not many people are
going to give away their time to get yelled at.
The reason most of the complaints happen, is simple
lack of knowledge of the game of soccer. It is our job
as volunteers to try and teach not only the kids but
also the parents and grand parents etc ..
As we improve the understanding of the game to all
persons involved, the game becomes that much more fun
for all. People also begin to understand why a referee
makes a call a certain way, or perhaps why a certain
call was not made at all.
For my money the best seat in the house is near center
field of a good U-14 soccer match. Lets all do our
best to make every ref feel the same way. The better
we treat our refs, the more comfortable they become
and the more willing they are to work hard at
advancing there own abilities. As they advance as AYSO
referees we all win. We get a better called match and
a better played match, and that is what it is all
about.
Kindest Regards,
Jeff Herpst
